As crime statistics continue to increase, concerned
citizens ask the question, "What Can We Do?" In thousands of cities and throughout the world, the answer to
that question has come in the form of a program called Crime Stoppers. It has proven to be a successful crime fighting
method by providing needed clues in solving crimes. By becoming an Associate Member or making a donation to Crime Stoppers,
you are helping make your community a safer place to live.
WHAT IS CRIME STOPPERS?
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization, make of a volunteer board of concerned citizens that
involves citizens, media, and area law enforcement agencies in an effective crime control program. Crime Stoppers
is vehicle for concerned citizens to call anonymously and reveal crucial clues to solve crimes. Informants are eligible
for a cash reward (up to $1,000.00) for the information if it leads to an arrest.
DOES
CRIME STOPPERS WORK?
Yes! Crime Stoppers does work! But we need your support to keep it working
and continue the fight against crime. For every dollar spent in rewards in 2009, approximately $1,000.00 worth of narcotics
were confiscated or stolen property was recovered. The return on investment, as well as the impressive arrest rates,
demonstrates that Crime Stoppers is a effective program. Crime Stoppers will be successful with the full support, cooperation,
and participation of citizens like you. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
HOW
DOES CRIME STOPPERS WORK AND DO I NEED TO GIVE MY NAME?
Citizens who have knowledge of crimes
are encouraged to come forward with information by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline, 727-TIPS (727-8477)/ toll free
1-800-558-TIPS (1-800-558-8477). The program allows anyone supplying the information to remain completely anonymous
without fear of involvement or reprisal. Your name will NEVER be asked. You will be assigned a code number and
advised to call back and check the progress of the case. A cash reward of up to $1,000.00 will be paid if the information
leads to an arrest or seizure.
HOW ARE THE REWARDS PAID?
A volunteer board of directors oversees the Crime Stoppers program. They determine and approve the rewards,
based on information presented by the law enforcement coordinator. The board doesn't know the identity of the callers.
They are presented with only the facts and a code number. When the caller checks on the progress of the case, he/she
is informed as to how the board will arrange payment of the cash reward while keeping the informant anonymous.
HOW IS IT FUNDED?
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit program supported solely
by fund raising events and donations from individual citizens, businesses, and grants. Laredo Crime Stoppers, Inc. is
a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporatoin. TAX ID# 74-2484815. Contributions are tax deductible.
